7 Great Things To Do in the Smoky Mountains

7 Great Things To Do in the Smoky Mountains

Every season is a great time to visit The Great Smoky Mountains National Park! Since we are in the middle of winter, we thought we would share 7 Great Things To Do in the Smoky Mountains if you are wishing you were in Pigeon Forge right now.

Winter Hiking in the National Park

Hitting the trails is not just a summertime activity in the Smoky Mountains. Just take a few precautions and be mindful of the ice and snow you may encounter. Winter hiking is great because there is a significantly less amount of people on the trails so it is not crowded at all. Some trails that would be great to do in the winter season are Charlies Bunion and Porters Creek. If you want to check out the road conditions and weather prior to your drive into the National Park, you can visit this website for more information.

Winterfest Driving Tour of Lights

Winter in Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg is lit up with millions of lights, making this area a winter wonderland. You can access the area map here to see where all the incredible light displays are throughout our Smoky Mountain area. Winterfest lasts through February 17th, 2020.

Smoky Mountain Waterfalls

Anytime of the year is a good time to check out the waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In the warmer months, the waterfalls in the Park are favorite destinations for visitors. People like to cool off in the mountain rivers and just relax after trekking to the waterfall. So, if you have not visited in the summer, it is a great time to plan a vacation to the Smokies. However, seeing it in the winter adds a different element. You have a really good chance of seeing snow in the higher elevations and seeing the waterfalls frozen with numerous icicles.

Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Show

Check in with the Hatfield and McCoy families as they duel it out here in the Smokies. With loads of comedy, incredible acts, dancing and singing the whole family will enjoy this fun and family friendly show. In addition to the great performances, it is also a dinner show that offers tasty southern food like fried chicken and mashed potatoes!

Anakeesta

Since opening Anakeesta has been winning the hearts of vacationers to this area with their beautiful landscapes, great good, fun activities and attractions. It is hands down one of the best places to see Downtown Gatlinburg. You simply ride the Chairlift or Gondola up the mountain until you reach the summit of Anakeesta. Enjoy shops, restaurants and beautiful walks as you take in the incredible views of Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains.

Arts & Crafts Community

When you visit the Smokies, you can expect to see artisans everywhere. One of the best aspects of visiting this area is the Arts & Crafts Community in Gatlinburg. You will find more than 120 artisans that create incredible works of art. You can find painting, sculptures, photography, furniture, textiles, baskets and a whole lot more when you visit. There is also a great array of restaurants that you can enjoy while shopping the different shops if you need to refuel!

Unwind in Downtown Pigeon Forge

Downtown Pigeon Forge is full of things to do in the winter. From shopping artisan shops to dinner shows, Pigeon Forge is open for business in the winter time! Some of the great shows to enjoy are the Comedy Barn and Dolly Parton’s Stampede, in addition to the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Show that we mentioned earlier.
