Christmas at Dollywood

Anyone else looking around wondering how in the world we are mere weeks away from Christmas? I am left wondering if I fell asleep for a long period of time or something. Regardless of whether I believe it is time for the Christmas season or not, it is coming. One of the biggest and greatest traditions here in Pigeon Forge for the holiday season is Christmas at Dollywood. Dollywood puts on one of the best Christmas festivals in the country and we are beyond lucky that this award winning tradition continues to live on here in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.

Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas

Beginning November 9th, Dollywood officially kicks off their Smoky Mountain Christmas Festival here in Pigeon Forge. This festival has been honored for ten consecutive years as the Best Christmas Event at any theme park, worldwide. With more than four million lights, entertaining holiday performances and that warm Christmas atmosphere, it is not hard to understand why so many people visit to spend Christmas at Dollywood. Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Christmas helps bring the family together in some holiday cheer while creating memories that will last a lifetime. Last year, Dollywood had their largest Christmas Expansion yet called Glacier Ridge. It is truly like walking through a wonderland and this year, guests to the park can also enjoy seeing the park’s new addition, Wildwood Grove, decked out for Christmas too.

Christmas in the Smokies

Celebrate the joy and magic of the season while a 14 person cast performs holiday favorites. This particular show is honestly my personal favorite. For years, my mom and I have made a tradition of going to Dollywood one evening solely to see this show. It has a way of bringing back that nostalgic and warm, cozy feeling that Christmas used to be and still should be today. For myself, I have a tendency to get a bit too busy with all the hustle and bustle that this season brings and I forget to simply enjoy. You know what I am talking about. Sitting back with a warm cup of cocoa or apple cider, with your cozy pajamas and socks on and with an old favorite holiday movie on the screen. I do not take enough time to do those simple pleasures in life during anytime of the year, but especially during Christmas. We need to all get back to that, don’t you agree? Simple pleasures, quality time and good memories. This show takes place at the Celebrity  Theater.

It’s a Wonderful Life

Enjoy the classic “It’s a Wonderful Life” film as it is brought to life on stage at Dollywood. This timeless story of love and generosity is a favorite among everyone during the holiday season and when you spend Christmas at Dollywood, you get to experience it in a new way and let me tell you, you will love it! This show takes place at the Showstreet Palace Theater and offers several showings throughout the day.

Christmas with the Kingdom Heirs

If you love gospel music, you do not want to miss the Kingdom Heirs during Christmas at Dollywood. They will get your spirits high as they perform classic and audience favorite Christmas hymns and songs. You can catch them at the Pines Theater during your visit to the theme park.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

This is probably my second favorite show that Dollywood puts on this time of year. I am not going to lie, it usually gives me goosebumps and I walk out with such a hopeful and thankful feeling. It plays with my emotions in the best way. It is about a family that finds its own Christmas miracle with the help of a mysterious stranger. Not only is it great for adults because of the storyline, but this is an excellent show for the little ones in the family too. Dancing mice that are full of comedy and a young girls belief in Santa are additional highlights of this story and show. If you like to enjoy shows while visiting Dollywood, you want to make sure this one is on your list. This show plays at the Pines Theater.

Rudolph and His Friends

Everyone knows the story of Rudolph and the loved tale that many enjoy during the holiday season. You can meet your favorite characters at Dollywood this Christmas season! Rudolph, clarice, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster and Yukon Cornelius can be found in the Craftsman’s Valley portion of the park and would love to meet and greet you! You can visit Rudolph’s Holly Jolly Junction and meet your favorite characters, get a photo and purchase a special photo souvenir to always remember your special experience with.

O’Holy Night

This show tells the story of the birth of Jesus. It follows the story of a little girl that is looking for an angel and of the story of how the three shepherds followed the star. This is what Christmas is all about…Jesus. Don’t miss this true story at the Valley Theater.

Appalachian Christmas

Enjoy the acoustic sounds of Christmas during this show at the Back Porch Theater. Numerous songs, many of them being classics are performed to get everyone in the holiday cheer.

Parade of Many Colors

After a day of entertainment and rides, gather the family together for the Parade of Many Colors. Nightly at 8:15pm, this parade includes incredible floats, interactive characters and numerous surprises that will delight guests. Dolly created this parade to express the values that she and her family have held close to their heart their whole lives. It is focused on faith, fun and harmony. The parade takes place in the Showstreet section of the park.

Smoky Mountain Christmas at Dollywood takes place from November 9th, 2019 through January 4th, 2020. It is a must-see when visiting the Great Smoky Mountains. Not only can you enjoy wonderful entertainment, numerous rides and tasty holiday treats – you can purchase one of a kind gifts for your friends and family back home. Dollywood has numerous shops throughout the theme park and many of the things sold are made by local and nearby artisans. As someone that visits Dollywood on the regular and as someone that adores Christmas, I could not imagine being in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg and missing out on Christmas at Dollywood.
