New to the Smokies

Are the mountains calling your name again? I think that means it’s time for another visit, how about you?! Whether you’ve been vacationing in the Smokies for years or you’re new to the visitors list, one of the best things about our charming area is that we’re always constantly growing and adding new things to enjoy. No one trip is ever the same and that’s what keeps our location so desired by many. One of the best parts about going on vacation is being able to make fond memories with your loved ones to take home with you. With all the fun and excitement you’ll find in town, we’re sure that those memories will include plenty of smiles and sincere laughter. 2019 and on are going to be some truly exciting years for the Smokies. We have so many things being built and some that have opened or are very close to. Let’s take a look at some places that are brand New to the Smokies!

Mountain Monster & the Mountain Mile and Tower Shops

Located on Teaster Lane in the heart of Pigeon Forge, this new project is one that everyone is anxiously awaiting the full opening of. It will be done in phases and will include a bunch of new shops (the rumor mill says Marshall’s is coming), restaurants (inside scoop: there might just be a Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Chang’s), lodging, attractions and more located along a mile of space. While details are still up in the air and are only being released as they become set in stone, we do know a little bit about one attraction that will be opening soon. The Mountain Monster, according to their website, will have three rides from an amazing 200 foot tower that overlooks the beautiful Smoky Mountains. If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, this is exactly where you want to go! From the few things I’ve seen, you’re in for a real adventure on this new attraction when it makes its grand opening. To learn more about it, check out their website that is updated regularly and even features a video to give you an idea of what it will look like.

National Enquirer Live

This new attraction in Pigeon Forge will let guests take a look at the “story behind the story,” as their website says, about this almost 100 year old American tabloid – the National Enquirer. While this maybe something that younger kids don’t know as much about as adults do, it will still be a great family friendly attraction to visit when you’re in the area. They’ll be taking their popular stories and bringing them to life for the guests to experience. You’ll be hearing about celebrities, crimes, and more and feeling like you’re at the scene of all the action. It’s opening this memorial day weekend and it’s bound to be an awesome time for everyone who gets to visit!

Rowdy Bear Ridge Adventure Park

This place might sound familiar if you’ve visited before. They are actually located in Gatlinburg, but they are expanding to Pigeon Forge! The new location will be opening in phases and the first one opened this past weekend. According to their website, this part of the park will feature Tennessee’s first ever year-round outdoor tubing park that you can visit day or night! At night, there will be LED lights that illuminate the path and we’re so excited to see it. You can reach speeds of up to 30 mph so we know this is going to be a thrilling adventure. Phase two will consist of an inverted aerial coaster that seats two people. You’ll get to soar over the park and other goodies will be in store like drops, music and more. This is expected to open in July. The third phase will hopefully be announced shortly, we can’t wait to hear more!

Anakeesta Expansion

Anakeesta has become a staple for visitors and so it only makes sense that they’re adding even more incredible things to their list. First up is a Vista Garden Walk expansion that will feature even more flowers, trees, gazebos, and more. You’ll love taking a relaxing stroll and seeing all the beautiful scenery. Next up is another new restaurant that will feature more seating options and, of course, some new and delicious food. Anakeesta offers some absolutely stunning mountain views of Mt. Leconte and more. They will be adding an observation tower that will be 1,930’ high with panoramic 360-degree views. There will also be a brand new way to get to the top if you’re not wanting to ride the chondola. You will get to ride, get this, a military truck! I don’t know about y’all, but I am so interested in this. Finally, they will be adding an overlook that will feature live music, a beer cart, seating, and more. 2019-2020 is going to be a really exciting time for this fantastic family friendly park.

Sunliner Diner

Ready to take a trip to the 50’s?! This new diner will be located in Pigeon Forge and will make you feel like you’re taking a step back in time. The classic car booths, music, adorable attire and more make this place feel like a true sock hop. They will be serving up some delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner and we can’t wait to see what the menu will consist of. We sure hope milkshakes are on the list! Who’s ready to turn back time?!

Flying Theater at the Island

This popular one stop shop is investing in a brand new and exciting attraction. The Flying Theater is slated to open in 2020 and it will be a state of the art film ride. According to their website, you will be able to feel like you’re soaring through natural wonders and amazing landmarks that you may not have been able to visit in your life yet. You’ll get to hear the sounds, feel the movements, breathe in the scents, and more. It’ll be like you’re truly at these places. It sounds incredible and we can’t wait to hear more details about it in the future.
