November in the Smokies

Can you believe that October is almost over and it’s time to start celebrating the holiday season once again? Time feels like it flies by faster and faster every year, do you all feel the same way? It’s okay though because this is a beautiful time to live in and visit the Smoky Mountains! If you’re looking for a real life winter wonderland to enjoy during these special holiday months then look no further! November is one of our favorite times of the year here in Sevier County and it’s for good reason. From the moment you enter into town, whether you’re coming from Sevierville or Gatlinburg, you will be greeted by over fifteen million twinkling lights to help celebrate the beginning of our very own magical Winterfest. This is the time of year when we get to reflect on how lucky and blessed we are. It’s when we get to finally partake in some well deserved quality time with our loved ones. We all get to look back on wonderful memories of the holidays and even create some new ones to add to the photo album. That’s what makes this such a truly endearing time and we’re counting down the days for 2018’s holiday season to officially begin. There will be so many fantastic things going on in town, so let’s take a look at what November in the Smokies will look like this year!

Pigeon Forge

November 6th is going to be one exciting night, so get ready to mark your calendars so you don’t miss this popular event. This is when the Pigeon Forge Winterfest will kick off and to say we’re counting down the days would be an understatement! The event will begin at 5 pm at Patriot Park and will include free entertainment and fireworks. The big headliner for the entertainment this year is none other than Season 12 Winner of the Voice…Chris Blue!

Our charming town will come alive, so to speak, with more than five million dazzling lights along the entire parkway that are sure to make you smile. Each of our stop lights will carry a theme to it with the 12 days of Christmas song and the displays are absolutely beautiful. This is sure to be one memory that you will remember and share with the family for years to come. We also offer something a little unique here in town, we have the Winterfest Driving Tour of Lights. This means that if you don’t feel like driving and battling traffic, you can head over to Patriot Park at traffic light #7 and climb aboard one of our warm and enclosed trolleys that will take you all around town to view the magical lights (for free!) Since we’re having a later Fall this year, you may even get to see our leaves changing colors all along our majestic rolling hills. The best place to view these would be on the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel at the Island which will whisk you up to 200 feet so you can see all the beauty surrounding you. It’s all enclosed and they offer heat or ac depending on how the weather is looking that day. You can also do plenty of holiday shopping at this one stop shop! Dolly Parton is an important person to us and we’re so excited that her Christmas shows have started early this year. Whether you visit the Stampede or her new Celebration! show, you will be greeted with a spectacle that the entire family is sure to love and is bound to get you all into the holiday spirit. Their amazing holiday tribute is a must see each year so make sure to add one or both of these shows to your list! You’ll even get a delicious four course meal, you can’t beat that. Comedy Barn is another show to add to the list, their holiday shows might just be funnier than the usual ones. Best of all, you get a free ticket for being our guest!

The beautiful city of Gatlinburg will host their annual Winterfest kick off on November 7th and it’s sure to be a good time from beginning to end. The entire downtown area will be blocked off so you can celebrate all along the strip. The kids and even adults (we all know we love the twinkles too) are sure to get super giddy as the lights turn on for the first time this year to help celebrate the amazing season that’s ahead of us. They will also be hosting their annual Chili Cookoff presented by Bush’s Chili Beans on the same day. Admission is only $10 and you will get to sample numerous homemade chili recipes that are sure to make your tastebuds happy! There will also be free entertainment and the event will be from 5 pm to 8 pm. Gatlinburg will also have their Trolley Ride of Lights where you can tour the magical lights without having to drive yourself. Another popular event will be happening from November 21st through the 25th at the WL Mills Conference Center at traffic light #8. Their annual Festival of Trees will take place and it has free admission. Here you will find a play area for the kiddos, numerous entertainment, photos with Santa, and Christmas Trees and Wreaths that you can buy and are sure to want to because they’re exquisite. This is an extra special event because it benefits the Boys and Girls Club of the Smoky Mountains. You can even have breakfast with Santa on Saturday, November 24th and it’s only $15 per person! Talk about an event that is sure to get you into the holiday spirit. Don’t forget to also visit Anakeesta if you really want to see all the gorgeous lights from way up above, the scenery is sure to take your breath away!

This year is going to be a little different, Sevierville will not be hosting their annual Winterfest as they are planning to completely revamp it for next year. They will still have all of their sparkling lights going up, but the actual event won’t take place. Have no fear, that just means it will be bigger and even better come next year! There will still be plenty of exciting things going on like the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Feud will be having their Christmas shows which is full of non stop laughter, crazy shenanigans, and holiday cheer. You also get their delicious four course meal that will consist of southern favorites like fried chicken, mashed taters, and more! Some exciting news to share is that the Smoky Mountain Opry will be having Chris Blue (season 12 winner of The Voice) headlining their holiday shows this year! This is sure to be one show you will NOT want to miss. Don’t forget you get a free adult ticket to each of these shows when you stay with us here at Resort Properties. All these events are sure to be getting you excited for November in the Smokies!
